So You Want To Go Blonde? 4 Tips For The Process

In the era of instant gratification, this is a tough one but being patient is the key to going blonde. As a rule of thumb, especially if your hair is in bad shape, you should plan to go lighter in stages to maintain the integrity of your hair. When I decided to take the light road a few months back, Lisa suggested that we gradually take my hair from my natural dark blonde to the beachy platinum I desired. While I had to swallow the fact that I wouldn’t walk out of my first appointment with the end goal, I am so thankful I listened. I just finished my second round of my painting and my hair the healthiest it’s ever been.

This is so important. Because your hair will undoubtedly suffer damage from going lighter, you’ll need to invest in the right products. We suggest getting a shampoo & conditioner to protect the color and a masque to heal your hair.

We’re talking time and money. Consider your budget and be realistic about the amount of time you can spend at the salon as this will help your colorist determine what will work best for you. If you plan to lighten all over, you will have to visit every four-six weeks to avoid color bands. Are you ready to be high maintenance?

Bring a picture, but be open to suggestions. It’s important to remember that these days photos are filtered and most colors you see on social media aren’t always realistic. Your colorist has extensive training on what shade will be best for your skin tone and eye color so it’s best to trust the professional.
