Laser Hair Removal featuring Splendor X – FAQ
Laser hair removal works by emitting a concentrated beam of light into hair follicles. The pigment in the follicles absorbs the light, which damages the hair and inhibits future growth.
Scott Miller is the only provider in Rochester offering laser hair removal using Splendor X. We chose this device as it offers Blend X technology, which means our device targets the hair follicle using two wavelengths. Traditionally, laser hair removal devices contain only one wavelength. Splendor X will synchronize these wavelengths based on the patient’s Fitzpatrick skin rating to deliver a safer, more comfortable experience for patients of all skin tones. Splendor X also features a large spot size with a square tip which means areas are covered quickly and with more accuracy. The device also features a built-in cooling system, which means even less discomfort for our patients.
Laser hair removal is considered permanent hair reduction. Hair reduction is considered permanent when a significant amount of hair does not return for longer than the complete growth cycle. For example, if the normal hair growth cycle is 4-6 weeks, but the hair does not grow back for 8-12 weeks, you have successfully achieved a permanent reduction of hair.
Patients begin with a series of 6 treatments. After 6 treatments, your service provider will assess and advise if additional treatments are necessary. Each patient’s scenario and needs are individual to that patient, and treatments will be customized to your individual needs.
Laser hair removal is considered a safe method for removing hair. It is important that all pre- and post-care considerations are followed for the best results.
Advanced laser hair removal technology allows all skin tones to be treated. One of the most important things to keep in mind for effective treatment is the hair in the treated area must be darker than the skin.
Yes. Your service provider will consult with you thoroughly, perform a skin assessment, and discuss pre-and post-care steps with you.
Most areas of the body may be treated, however the area above the cheekbone is generally avoided for safety reasons.
During treatment, patients may feel a warm pinprick sensation or feel as if a rubber band is being snapped against the skin. There may be slight redness or swelling. Rarely, laser hair removal may cause blistering or crusting on treated areas. It is important that treated areas are not exposed to UV light for at least two weeks. Following that, or if the area must be exposed, a physical sunscreen of at least SPF 30 should be used and reapplied frequently. Discomfort may be treated with cool packs and/or aloe vera or hydrocortisone cream.
